The Just Nothing

Christian Louboutin Just Nothing

The Just Nothing is Louboutin's near-invisible mule: a clear band over the toe so the shoe almost disappears, on a fine stiletto. The whole idea is the illusion of a shoe that is barely there.

It is a backless mule, so it slips on and the whole shoe rests on the vamp across the foot. It fits true to size for most people. We authenticate every pair in house, which is what lets a well-kept pre-owned example stand in for a boutique buy.

Wearing it

It is the vamp and the footbed that mark before anything else on a backless shoe, so we start there.

Does the Just Nothing run true to size?

The Just Nothing fits true to size for most people. As a backless mule the fit is all in the vamp: your toes should sit just inside the front with the band holding across the foot, and a little heel overhang at the back is normal. If you are between sizes, we would size down rather than up.

Authentication

How do you spot a fake Just Nothing?

We authenticate every pair in house. These are the details our team checks first on any Just Nothing that comes through us. For the full method, read our guide to authenticating Louboutins.

01

The red sole

Louboutin's red is a specific shade (Pantone 18-1663, Rouge Louboutin). On a worn pair it fades and scuffs at the tread first. A sole that reads orange or pinkish, or paint sitting on top of the leather rather than in it, is a warning sign.

02

The sole stamp

The red sole is engraved with Christian Louboutin and the size, set across the arch. On a genuine pair the lettering is crisp, evenly pressed and correctly placed. Shallow, uneven or badly spaced engraving, or a stamp that looks printed on rather than pressed in, is a common tell on a fake.

03

The insole stamp

Christian Louboutin and Made in Italy are stamped cleanly into the insole with the size. The lettering is even and precisely spaced. Smudged, shallow, or misaligned stamping is one of the most common tells on a fake.

04

The vamp

A backless mule is held by the vamp across the foot, so that is where the make shows. The band or straps should be evenly cut and cleanly stitched where they meet the sole, with the patent or leather sitting smooth and taut over the last. A vamp that puckers, or stitching that wanders where it joins the sole, is a warning sign.

05

Construction

The patent should read as a deep, even gloss with no cloudiness or crazing. Look for clean stitching, a smoothly finished footbed, and straps anchored firmly to the sole. Glue at the edges or a footbed that peels is a warning sign.

06

Box and dust bag

Original packaging is a supporting signal, never proof on its own. We authenticate on the shoe itself, and a genuine box and dust bag with the correct labelling add confidence.
